Senior Portrait FAQs

When should I have my senior portraits taken?

Typically senior portraits are taken the summer before your senior year.  However, if you’re not interested [or don’t need] a yearbook photo, some Seniors choose to have them taken the spring of their senior year.  Just make sure you check with your school about the yearbook photo policies and deadlines.

How do I choose a place for my senior protraits?

Together we will talk about the look and feel that you want for your portraits.  Maybe that means you love fields, streams, and bridges.  Maybe you prefer a more modern look with an old abandoned building and cracked cement.  Or perhaps you’re somewhere in the middle.  Whatever your style is, we can find a location that you love.

What if it rains?

I will watch the weather closely as your session approaches.  If it looks like rain, we’ll reschedule to another day/time as soon as possible.

Can I bring my parents or a friend?

Of course! I encourage you to bring someone that will help you relax and have fun. You may want to warn your guest because I often enlist parents/friends/siblings in holding reflectors or act goofy behind me.  :)  Feel free to bring a friend/parent and if you'd like I can take a nice portrait of the 2 of you in the last 5 minutes of the session.

How long will the session last?

A typical senior session will last between 1 to 1.5 hours.

How many clothing changes can I bring?

2-3 clothing changes are just about right for the length of time we will be photographing.  I always recommend choosing clothing that you feel great in – if you feel great, you’ll be confident, comfortable, and more relaxed.

When is the best time for my senior portrait session?

The best time is usually first thing in the morning [are you an early bird?!] or a couple hours before sunset.  However, any time of the day is fine.

What should I bring with me?

Along with your change of clothes, I recommend bringing basic stuff like a brush, powder, lip gloss, etc.

I've seen some photos in Pinterest or in ads – can we try something like that?

Absolutely! I love to see what my clients have in mind! Email me some photos and we can talk about it further in our phone consultation before the shoot. I love to see what photos you like!

How long before I can see my images?

Your portraits will be ready in approximately 5 business days from the date of your photo session. You will be sent a link to an online photo gallery for your shoot. From there you can download the image files, printable up to 16" x 24". If you desire a larger print, please contact me to coordinate. You can also share your gallery with friends and family members.

For your convenience, you can order prints directly from the online gallery. These orders are fulfilled by my professional photo lab and then shipped directly to you. You can access your photo gallery for two months after delivery, but rest assured after that time your photos aren't deleted. If for some reason, you need to view them again, let me know.

Who owns the digital negatives?

Although Hensel Photography remains the owner, you are given unlimited rights to print and duplicate your images. Digital negatives remain the exclusive property of Hensel Photography. The portrait studio reserves the right to use images and/or reproductions for the purpose of display, publication and advertising. To protect your rights it is the studio’s policy that all clients complete the studio’s model release form prior to their session.

Yeah, but what about Facebook?

Facebook is an awesome place to share photos! You can actually share your favorite photos from directly your photo gallery to Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+.

OK, I decided I want you to take my senior portraits, now what do I do?

Great,  I’m so excited! To schedule your senior session date and time, you can email me, use the Contact Me form on this website, or call me at 630-879-9988. Talk to you soon!

I had my photo shoot and it was awesome! I want to tell everyone. What's the best way to do that?

This is why I do what I do – to make people happy. I would love for you to tell your friends and family about me and my photography services. In fact, a majority of my business comes from word-of-mouth referrals. I would also love to receive your positive reviews on my Google and Yelp pages. Thanks and I hope to work with you again soon!
